Dispatch a patrol to reconoiter the outposts of General Lafayette's Division. Map their outposts to the best of your ability and probe any holes in their lines to gauge their intentions after their late retreat north of Richmond. Reports confirm that Wayne's Pennsylvanians have crossed the Rappahonock, be on the alert for any signs that they have reached Lafayette. As the army is refitting take only the best equiped volunteers from the divers corps of the army.

Infantry should be prepared to march, both in equipment and in physical condition. Soldiers should carry 2 days rations and 40 rounds, and the minimum of personal effects for comfort.

Dragoons should also be prepared to march with10 rounds for pistol and 30 rounds for carbines where applicable and 2 days rations. Dragoons should have the minimum of horse furniture for march including: watering bridle; nosebag, forage wallet with 2 days of horse feed.

Report this information to my aid, or should I expire, that of the Earl Cornwallis.
