God’s Peace be with you all.
Psalm 9:1-2
will give thanks to the LORD with
my whole heart; I will tell of all thy wonderful deeds.
2 I will be glad and exult in thee, I
will sing praise to thy name, O Most High.
Psalm 9:7-11
7 But the LORD sits
enthroned for ever, he has established his throne for
judgment; 8 and he judges
the world with righteousness, he judges the peoples with
equity. 9 The LORD is a
stronghold for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of
trouble. 10 And those who
know thy name put their trust in thee, for thou, O LORD,
hast not forsaken those who seek thee.
11 Sing praises to the LORD, who
dwells in Zion!
This
week we will all have the opportunity to study the Word of
God through Vacation Bible School. It is
a chance for all of us to sing our praises to God for the
things that God has done. Usually VBS is
seen as a way to have fun with Bible Study, and it is mainly
aimed at children. But like last year,
there will be an adult class this year, and I hope each of
you will come and be a part. As adults,
we will dive into the days themes a little deeper and
explore some of the theological connections between the
texts.
Not only
is today the first day of VBS, but today is also the
beginning of the “green season” of the church year, i.e. the
time after Pentecost. The summer usually
brings about vacation, the end of school, and time away from
church. To me, this is what makes VBS so
special. It reminds us that even as we
enter this ordinary time in the church year, we should and
do continually praise God for God’s goodness.
Yes, Advent has come and gone, as has Christmas,
Epiphany, Lent, and now Easter. But
while these have come and gone, we can begin to prepare for
these seasons again, because it won’t be long and they will
be here again.
As you
prepare for your own summer, I hope you make VBS a part.
Last year we averaged about 32 per night, and this
year I hope we average more. I hope you
also tell your family and friends about it, and bring them
as well. See you all tonight!
In our
prayers this week:

God’s
Peace,
