Weekly Devotional

October 27, 2008

John 1:1-12  In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  2 He was in the beginning with God.  3 All things came into being through him, and without him not one thing came into being. What has come into being  4 in him was life, and the life was the light of all people.  5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it.  6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.  7 He came as a witness to testify to the light, so that all might believe through him.  8 He himself was not the light, but he came to testify to the light.  9 The true light, which enlightens everyone, was coming into the world.  10 He was in the world, and the world came into being through him; yet the world did not know him.  11 He came to what was his own, and his own people did not accept him.  12 But to all who received him, who believed in his name, he gave power to become children of God.

Yesterday was such a good day.  Having all those children running around and making noise was a nice change of things.  It reminds me that in the sight of the Lord, we are all children.  And so I give thanks every Sunday that we have children in church that remind me of this.

On top of having all those kids, it was a special day in that Taylor Crawley was the acolyte for the first time.  I am not sure how many of you noticed that, and I wanted to point that out.  I think it is important when we get new people involved in church.  Taylor was an example of that yesterday.

Getting involved in church is not just for children.  Adults can be involved as well.  After all, when we get down to it, we are all children in the house of God.  For those of you that are not yet “doing” something during worship (other than singing and participating!), I encourage you to think about being involved.  If you feel you need some training, come see me, and we will work on it.  Worship is a community aspect, and not an individual one.  Having more people involved just seems to make worship better for all of us.

This week I will be working on the November newsletter.  Most of you have already signed up for a way to get involved in worship.  However, we still have plenty of spots available for December.  Please consider how you might be a help during worship.

In our prayers this week:

Alma, Ann, Doris and her mom, Norm, and Jane.  Our prayers are also with the family of Ruth Brown as they mourn her loss this past week.

God’s Peace,

Pastor Judson
