Romans 8:24-28 24
For in hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not
hope. For who hopes for what is seen? 25
But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it
with patience. 26 Likewise the Spirit
helps us in our weakness; for we do not know how to pray
as we ought, but that very Spirit intercedes with sighs
too deep for words. 27 And God, who
searches the heart, knows what is the mind of the
Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints
according to the will of God. 28 We
know that all things work together for good for those
who love God, who are called according to his purpose.
Yesterday at our meeting
after church we discussed the things that you all said at
the cottage meetings. We grouped these into two
categories: Short Term Goals and Long Term Goals. Many of
the Short Term Goals we have already started on, and even
some of the Long Term Goals.
In order for us as a congregation to accomplish
all of these goals, we are going to need to work together.
I know that we will be able to, because I know that we
already do. There are many aspects of our congregation in
which we act as a team. Furthermore, it is by acting as a
team that we are able to get things accomplished.
However, working together is something that we
can do at more places than just church. Each of you has a
different calling in your lives. Some of you are teachers,
some homemakers, some professionals. But even in your
various jobs and roles, you are able to work together with
others so that things can be accomplished. This is exactly
what Paul was talking about in the above verses. What would
it be like if those early Christians had not worked together
to spread the Gospel? Do you think we would even be here?
As we as a congregation move forward, I want us
to focus on our goals. Let’s focus on the short term, and
on the long term. But at the same time, let’s keep in mind
that we do all things to the Glory of God. Like Paul, we
know that all things (and people!) work together for the
good and glory of God.
In our
prayers this week:
