It was exactly 65 years ago that I was taking Basic Infantry training at Camp Croft. The troops in the training cycle just ahead of ours, had their training cut short by about two weeks and they were hustled off to Europe as replacements for units fighting in the Battle of the Bulge. After completing OCS, I followed them to Europe at the end of 1945, to work in the effort to recover and identify many of those who had made the supreme sacrifice. God Bless them all, and for the dedicated Camp Croft cadres who worked so hard to prepare us for whatever fate we might encounter.
