Charles Wahler was born November 28, 1914 in Austria and immigrated to the US in 1938. He worked in the finance department of The Philadelphia Record. On November 26th, 1941, Charles enlisted in the US Army. He served stateside with the 4th Infantry Division. In May of 1944, shortly before he left for overseas service, he married Rudy Held. In August of 1944, Charles arrived in England and qualified in Airborne school. He served out the remainder of the war with the 101st Airborne Division, participating in the following campaigns: Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe.  Having the ability to speak/read German as well as speak French, Charles was responsible for POW interrogation.  Information he obtained was used in the Nuremberg Trials.  Charles was discharged in October 1945.  Charles lived out his life in Drexel Hill, PA, until his passing in 1991.

 

When the current owner came upon these images, all he had was an envelope full of negatives, which meant great quality images but unfortunately no captions.
