Harold "Pat" Murphy
submitted by daughter Patricia Palmer, January 2011
Patricia sent these images of Camp Croft taken circa October 1942 while her father Harold "Pat" Murphy trained before going to England. Murphy later landed in France on D-Day with the 29th Div 115th regiment
"Harold 'Pat' Murphy was the first father to be inducted into the army from Wayne County Ohio in WWII. He trained at Camp Croft and I believe he may have been a part of the cadre for a time before shipping out for Scotland and then England. He was a part of the 29th Div 115th Regiment that landed on Omaha Beach on D Day. He was wounded 6/29/44 near Bios De Bretel-La Fossa as the troops moved to take St. Lo. The bullet that entered his hip was found still in place 50 yrs later when he had a CAT scan much to the doctors surprise. After recovering from his wound he spent time with headquarters in France. He died 50 years to the day that he landed on Omaha Beach. My search to honor his service is also meant to honor all the brave men who fought and were truly part of the 'Greatest generation'" --- Patricia Palmer, his daughter ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
