A Rifle Company consisted of three rifle platoon, a weapons platoon, and a headquarters group. The platoons were further divided into rifle, light machine gun, and 60 mm Mortar squads. Necessary skills included use of the M1 rifle, automatic rifle (BAR), light machine gun, mortar, bayonet, and grenades. Other requirements were proficiency as a gunner, assistant gunner, and ammo bearer of the crew served weapons.
