The colonial
building of the Red
Cross was located on the Headquarters Loop near the main entrance.
The principle activities of the
Red Cross on an
Army post included locating relatives, arranging for relief of a
soldiers
family, assistance in solving business problems, furnishing information
regarding government insurance, allotments, and death claims, and
giving
advice concerning the Soldiers' and Sailors' Relief Act. The Red Cross
also used it's nationwide presence to gather confidential information
for
military authorities when considering questions of dependency release
and
furlough. In serious cases, the organization also made loans to needy
soldiers
in order for them to return home for family illness and funerals.
