The Heavy Weapons Company was made
up of two heavy machine gun platoons, one 81 mm mortar platoon, and a
headquarters
group. Their weapons training began with the M1 rifle, the M1 carbine,
the
M1911 Colt pistol, and grenades. Next the trainee became familiar with
the
responsibilities of the squad leader and learned to serve as a gunner,
assistant
gunner, and ammo bearer for the heavy machine gun and mortar. |
