Camp Croft, South Carolina
US Army Infantry Replacement Training Center

UNKNOWN CEMETERY, East Croft Circle

Located on East Croft Circle, this cemetery had several markers but was bulldozed in the 1970's by an unscrupulous developer intent on building low income housing on the site.  The US Army carefully avoided disturbing the area during the construction of Camp Croft in the 1940's.  Recent information indicates this may be the Powell Family Cemetery and contains as many as 24 graves.

Unknown Cemetery

Here is an interesting image, taken in 1946 as the camp was being dismantled.  You can see the foundations of the barracks and mess halls on the right of the photo.  The buildings in the regimental area are, of course, now gone and replaced by apartments.  What is believed to be the cemetery is denoted by the red arrow.  From the photo above, you can see that nothing as ever built on this portion of the property.
