An Antitank Company had the primary responsibility to destroy enemy armored vehicles.  It was composed of three antitank platoon, one antitank mine platoon, and a headquarters group. The antitank platoon was made up of a headquarters group and three antitank squad, each armed with one 37 mm antitank gun manned by a squad leader, gunner, four cannoneers, three ammo bearers, and a driver for the 1-1/2 ton six wheeled truck. The members of the squad learned the use of the M1 rifle, M1 carbine, grenades, and the vehicle mounted 50 cal machine gun. The antitank mine platoon, consisting of three squads and a headquarters group, learned to lay and remove mines including removal of enemy mines. Mines were used to disable or slow down enemy vehicles to make them easier targets for the antitank guns.
